I should really try and remember that rabbits hop, not trot!Thursday, January 25, 2007

Lake Matheson
This picture was taken on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. That fuzzy mound in the distance is Mount Cook, which on a clear day, would be perfectly reflected in the mirror-like surface of the lake (that is, before the ducks wake up in the morning and stir the waters).

Tinkity-Tink!
I finally found what I was looking for in Miles in this very intuitive sketch. This piece became the model drawing that I would keep referring back to for every drawing of him henceforth.

Peek-A-Boo
Here's another developmental sketch of Miles the rabbit.
Left drawing: A study of a rabbit from a stock photograph.
Right drawing: An evolution of the above mentioned study into a more 'expressive' character capable of a wider range of emotion. Or at least that was the intention.

Grandmama
This sketch was done at the food court of a mall. I spotted this woman walking back to where I had imagined her grandchild to be waiting for her. She looks quite ecstatic with that tray of McDonald's Happy Meal, doesn't she?

Stolen Child
The title's hardly original. It's a poem written by William Butler Yeats. The main inspiration of this little sketch came from the haunting version sung by Loreena McKennitt. Although the 'Child' has been referred to as a 'he', I couldn't help but see a bushy-haired girl being led into the woods by fairies.Come away, O human child
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand
For the world's more full of weeping
Than you can understand.

Miles
In The Woods was a 3D project that was developed with a friend of mine for our final year assessment in school. This is Miles, one of the two main characters in the proposed short film.Saturday, January 6, 2007

Gheep
I encountered one of these animals on a farm in Abel Tasman (South Island of New Zealand). The farmer claimed that he had successfully cross-bred a giraffe and a sheep to produce better wool. I was quite impressed at that time. However, looking back now, this 'Gheep' (as the farmer had called it) looks suspiciously like a llama to me...Baaaa....!!

Lora
A friend of mine took a liking to the earlier drawing of Lora and asked if he could make a model of her in 3D. This profile drawing was done as a 'casual' turnaround drawing to complement the first drawing.
